NEW DELHI: Accusing Prime Minister Narendra
Modi of leaving out
Indira Gandhi from the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war celebrations,
Congress on Thursday said the BJP leader is "so weak and insecure" that he cannot even acknowledge her leadership in the crucial war that split up Pakistan into two countries.
Addressing reporters, Congress veteran Mallikarjun Kharge said Modi's action contrasts starkly with late BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had called Indira as 'Durga' after the 1971 victory.
"Bangladesh and its leaders like Sheikh Hasina still remember and applaud Indira Gandhi and India for their role in liberating Bangladesh, but some people here refuse to do that," he lashed out.
"PM Modi is so insecure and weak that he cannot even utter Indra Gandhi's name. It's downright pettiness and an attempt to whitewash history, but he will not succeed," Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Gourav Gogoi said.
Rahul said, "Indira lives in the hearts of Indians, she sacrificed her life for India. how will you erase her name?" tnn
