Shortstop, 22, treated and released from hospital with what were described as scrapes

Padres star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. was involved in a minor accident Sunday in which he escaped with only minor scrapes, according to sources.

A report out of the Dominican Republic said the incident involved a motorcycle and that Tatis was transported to a “medical center” for treatment.

People familiar with Tatis’ status said he was doing normal activities as of Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Tatis hit a National League-high 42 home runs in 2021, his first season in a 14-year, $340 million contract.

The Padres cannot comment on the status of Tatis or any other players during the Major League Baseball lockout.
