Hazmat at FedEx Ground on Howard St, Niles After Employee Gets Sick After Handling Package

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Niles responded about 4:49 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 to a report of a hazmat incident at FedEx Ground, 5959 West Howard Street in Niles.

Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a FedEx worker became sick after handling an unmarked package that was in a FedEx truck.

A MABAS Division 3 Box Alarm #2H3 was activated at 5:12 p.m. Firefighters, paramedics, hazmat techs, and/or command officers from Des Plaines, Glenview, Lincolnwood, North Maine, and Skokie were assigned to the scene.

Firefighters, paramedics, and/or command officers from Lincolnwood and Wilmette were assigned to stand by in Niles fire stations.

The Hazmat staging area was at Central and Jarvis.

One patient was transported to a nearby hospital at about 5:16 p.m.
