Fisherman discovers body in water while looking for lobster
San Diego police are investigating the death
A fisherman looking for lobster Friday near Sunset Cliffs discovered a body floating in the water, according to San Diego lifeguards.
San Diego Lifeguard Lt. Lonnie Stephens said the male victim was fully-clothed and his age was unknown. The deceased man was discovered around 6:30 p.m. off Ladera Street and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
“It was dark, and we just don’t have any other details,” said Stephens. “There are a lot of unknown circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The San Diego Police Department and Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the man’s death. He has not yet been identified.
Stephens said the man who discovered the body was hoop-netting for lobsters from shore in the area, which is an allowed activity in that area of Sunset Cliffs.
