Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan speaks at the Wan Chai District Health Centre Express opening ceremony.

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan today officiated at the opening ceremony of the Wan Chai District Health Centre (DHC) Express.

“Through the active involvement of the NGO operators, DHC Expresses could utilise the local network and resources to proactively and flexibly provide district-based primary healthcare services that meet local needs,” said Prof Chan at the opening ceremony.

The Wan Chai express is operated by the Methodist Centre and comprises a core centre located on 16/F, Congregation House, Leighton Road and five service points.

It provides one-stop primary healthcare services such as health promotion, nurse counselling, health risk factors assessment, health management teams and chronic disease management in accordance with local needs under the aim of Healthy Life in Wan Chai.

The express also provides community pharmacist counselling services and offers rehabilitation service to patients who suffered from stroke, hip fracture and myocardial infarction.

Additionally, it will collaborate with the Hong Kong East Cluster of the Hospital Authority to organise events and provide relevant primary healthcare services to discharged patients.

Prof Chan said the Methodist Centre has been based in Wan Chai District for many years. She was pleased to see that the express also connects with various organisations in the community and reaches out to different groups to bring its unique district-based primary healthcare services into full play.
