46 pollution convictions in Oct

The Environmental Protection Department today announced it recorded 46 convictions for pollution offences in October.

 

Five were for air pollution, six for noise and four for illegal waste disposal.

 

There were also two under the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance and 29 under the Public Cleansing & Prevention of Nuisances Regulation.

 

The heaviest fine was $10,000 imposed for each offence committed by two companies.

 

They were fined for failing to control air pollutant emissions as well as using powered mechanical equipment and carrying out prescribed construction works not in accordance with the conditions of a construction noise permit.
