The funeral of Seán FitzPatrick, the former chief executive and chairman of Anglo Irish Bank has taken place in Co Wicklow.

He died last week aged 73 following a short illness.

Businessmen Denis O'Brien, Leslie Buckley and the former chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank David Drumm were among the mourners at the Holy Rosary Church in Greystones.

In her eulogy, Seán FitzPatrick's daughter Sarah described him as a very unique person, who she said was a very loving and present father.

She said his greatest achievement in life was meeting her mother, Triona, that Seán had pursued her "like everything in life, with dogged determination, creativity and a hell of a lot of perseverance."

Sarah told the mourners her Dad had "a lot of professional highs and lows in his life". She said he had enormous mental strength; "when we were down he would pick us up".

She described how he told his three children that the "measure of a person is not their successes but in fact how they could find a way to move forward when they had been knocked down off the horse. In that regard our Dad was a giant of a man."
