Suspected DUI Driver Crashes into The Rivalry Alehouse in Antioch

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Antioch responded about 11:37 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 to a report of a vehicle crash into the Rivalry Alehouse, 945 Main Street Antioch. The Antioch dispatch center received several 911 calls report the crash, according to the Antioch Police Department.

Firefighters on arrival reported a vehicle partially into the building with several windows broken and a light pole down. A traffic light at Main Street and Lake Street was also damaged.

Two Beer Tommy Events was entertaining and had just finished their show when the crash occurred. The Rivalry Alehouse was immediately boarded up — and ready for business — with normal business hours scheduled for Saturday, November 13. James & Friends Acoustic starts at 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Rivalry Alehouse management stated they will work quickly to get The Rivalry repaired. Meanwhile 1-800-BOARDUP secured the opening created by the Cadillac.

Paramedics discovered that no pedestrians, patrons or workers inside the Rivalry Alehouse were injured. The driver was assessed for possible minor injuries.

According to the Antioch Police Department, the crash investigation revealed that 39-year-old Antioch resident, Nicolas Placko, was driving east on Lake Street and continued through the T-style intersection with Main Street. Placko drove his white Cadillac CTS across Main Street, hit a traffic light standard and a light pole and then crashed into the Rivalry Alehouse building. He narrowly missed a fire hydrant, drove up the sidewalk and hit near the front entrance of the building where the Rivalry Alehouse is located.

After the crash, the light pole remained on top of the roof of the Cadillac.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

According to Antioch police, Placko was subsequently charged, suspected of DUI — Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. He was also cited with several other traffic related citations. Placko is scheduled for a court date in Lake County court on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 9:00 AM.

The Village of Antioch Building Inspector responded to the scene to check the integrity of the building. A board up service was called in to frame the broken windows and entry door. The owners of the Rivalry Alehouse are in the process of obtaining an estimate of the damage. Village of Antioch Publics Works also arrived to take care of village light poles and/or traffic light that were damaged.

Bricks, a computer, furniture, a window frame, window glass, and other items were damaged from the crash at the Rivalry Alehouse.
