BEAUFORT: Residents staying along Mile 6 to Jalan Sipitang have expressed disappointed with the frequent floods in some villages, especially along the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway. A resident, Henry Yamie, on Wednesday, said an hour or two of rainfall will cause flash floods in villages near the construction.

“One of the possible causes is the contractor has not built a proper drainage,” he said, adding that the road has also turned brownish in colour due to mud brought by the flooding.
In some areas, the drains are covered in mud and even the culverts are either damaged or clogged.
Henry said the Pan Borneo developers should build proper drains to, instead of bringing a negative impact on the community in the area.
“As long as the Pan Borneo project is not completed, will the people continue to face flash floods? The project might take years to complete,” he said.

He said Pan Borneo developers should also ensure the existing roads are in good condition and not littered with potholes as it poses danger to motorists.
“Potholes everywhere seem to be ignored. This can cause accidents not only to cars but also motorcycles,” he said.

Henry, behalf of the residents, urged, the Public Works Department to monitor existing roads for damages and do the repairs where needed.
