93.4pc of Sabah’s 655 cases close contacts, symptomatic
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s new daily Covid-19 cases dipped marginally to 655 on Thursday from 675 the day earlier, while three deaths were recorded throughout the State – one each in Sipitang, Kunak and Penampang.Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said close contacts and symptomatic cases continue to be the caseload’s main contributors. “On Thursday, 52.82 per cent of the caseload (346) are close contacts while 40.61 per cent (266) are symptomatic cases. With 346 cases from close contacts, it can be concluded that there is still a high possibility of non-compliance with the outlined standard operating procedures (SOPs), despite various call outs made by the Government,” he said in a statement, Thursday. Masidi said Ranau topped the caseload with 71 cases, followed by Kota Kinabalu (69), Tuaran (59), Beaufort (46), Kota Belud (44), Penampang (41), Kota Marudu (40), Pitas (33) and Putatan (32). “Some 14 districts recorded decreased cases, of which five recorded a significant decrease, namely Kinabatangan (-26), Kota Belud (-21), Sandakan (-21), Kota Kinabalu (-20) and Kota Marudu (-16). “Another 12 districts recorded an increase, with six districts recording a significant increase, namely Tuaran (+24), Putatan (+18), Tawau (+15), Pitas (+14), Ranau (+11) and Penampang (+11),” he said. He added that 418 cases were registered within the day earlier, while the remaining 237 were backlogs overdue between two and seven days. “Serious infections remain low, with two cases in category three and one case each in category four and five. “The bulk of infections are in category two with 568 cases, which is 86.72 per cent of the caseload, while 79 are category one infections, which is 12 per cent. Four cases are still being evaluated by the State Health Department,” he said.

Some 378 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,869 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities

Masidi said 76 patients are under critical care, with 74 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)/repurposed critical care as well as three in the open ward (high dependency ward (HDW)/acute cubicle), with 23 needing ventilator support.

“Some 81 stage four and five patients (38.57 per cent) have not completed their vaccinations,” he added. Sabah’s bed capacity is at 6,051 units with an occupancy rate of 30.89 per cent, he said. On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 10,493 individuals were vaccinated on Nov 3, of which 8,024 were adults and 2,469 were teenagers. “As of Nov 3, some 2,428,012 individuals have completed their first dose, of which 76.07 per cent were adults. Some 2,344,708 individuals have completed both doses of the vaccine, of which 74.69 per cent were adults,” he said.

He added that 329,575 teenagers have received their first dose, whereas 284,412 teenagers have been fully vaccinated thus far.
