9 Last-Minute Milwaukee-Themed Halloween Costumes

Looking for Halloween costume inspiration? We have local ideas for groups, pairs or if you’re flying solo.

1.

Milverine

Show up to Halloween as this local celebrity and you are sure to be recognized. The Milverine makes for an iconic yet simple Halloween get-up. Famously known for strutting around Milwaukee; his attire includes no shirt, blue jeans, and a hearty, wolverine-like beard.

2.

Dick Bacon

Another Milwaukeean who came to fame for having his shirt off was the late Dick Bacon or “Mr. Bradford.” Bacon loved to have a crispy golden tan year-round no matter the temperature outside. All you need is a bronze tan, skimpy swimwear, and some tinfoil to complete this look. Hopefully it’s not too cold!

3.

The Fonz/Fonzie

Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, aka The Fonz, is a fictional character from the sitcom “Happy Days,” which was set in 1950s Milwaukee. Popularity grew over the character due to his “too cool for school” attitude, his iconic “Fonzie” look, and catchy catchphrases. A “Fonzie” inspired Halloween costume may include slick hair, a leather jacket, tight jeans, and Aviators. Bonus points if you can pull off a shark in a swimming pool.

4.

Rollie Fingers

Roland “Rollie” Glen Fingers is a Hall of Fame relief pitcher who formerly played for the Milwaukee Brewers, including during the team’s World Series run in 1982. Fingers might be just as famous for his iconic, one-of-a-kind handlebar mustache. Throw on any (preferably vintage) Brewers gear you have and complete your “Rollie” costume with a store-bought or self-grown handlebar mustache.

5.

The Great Lakes Avengers

This mighty comic book crew is great for folks going as a group this Halloween. The fictional superheroes were published by Marvel comics and are a Milwaukee-based Avengers-type team that includes some oddball characters. Dress up as any of the five original members – Mr. Immortal, Dinah Soar, Big Bertha, Flatman, and Doorman. Or make a tribute to one of the recruits like Squirrel Girl or Deadpool.

6.

Samson the Gorilla

Samson was one of Milwaukee’s most famous residents – one of the largest gorillas in captivity. He resided at the Washington Park Zoo and later Milwaukee County Zoo for 30 years and captivated huge crowds as the zoo’s main attraction until his death in 1981. He was also known to bang on the glass enclosures and broke through four different times. Gear up in a gorilla suit and bang through your Halloween as Samson would.

7.

Laverne and Shirley

Looking for a duo costume this Halloween? The title pair from this classic sitcom are the perfect pair for you and your best friend. Laverne and Shirley worked at a brewery called Shotz in Milwaukee together, wearing long blue button-up smock uniforms – Laverne’s with a large L on it. And the costumes wouldn’t be complete without you and your partner quoting their infamous saying “Schlemeil! Schlemazel! Hassenpfeffer Incorporated!”

8.

Famous Racing Sausages

What better Milwaukee-themed Halloween costume than the Famous Racing Sausages. These tasty racers are widely known and loved because of their tradition at the Brewers stadium. You can choose one of the sausages to be for Halloween or convince your friends to dress up and go as the whole sausage crew.

Milwaukee Chicks Player

Did you know there used to be another professional baseball team in Milwaukee? In 1944 the Milwaukee Chicks were a team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, dominating their competition en route to a championship in their only season. They were also famously known for wearing league-mandated skirt uniforms! Represent the Chicks with a replica uniform and a baseball bat and glove.
