HK reports 6 imported virus cases

October 21, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating six additional COVID-19 cases, all of which are imported.

Four of the new cases involve mutant strains. While the viral load of one case is insufficient for a mutation test, the mutation test result of the remaining case is pending.

Among the six patients, aged one to 60, three arrived in Hong Kong from high-risk places while the others were from medium-risk places.

Five of them tested positive for the virus during quarantine, including two patients who are close contacts of a previous imported case. The remaining patient tested positive upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport.

Meanwhile, specified people linked to Tower 1, Grand Promenade in Sai Wan Ho are reminded to undergo testing tomorrow in accordance with the compulsory testing notice. The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection station at Grand Promenade Carpark L1 tomorrow to provide free testing service.

Separately, in view of a suspected re-positive case involving a cruise ship crew member, the cruise ship is included in a compulsory testing notice. Those who have completed a COVID-19 vaccination course are still required to be tested.

The compulsory testing notice also covers two schools where an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection and/or influenza-like illness has occurred. Those who are fully vaccinated would be taken to have complied with the requirements set out in the notice.

A total of 62 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, one of which is a local case with an unknown infection source and the rest are imported.
