Those travelling in and through Beckenham this morning have captured the pools of water on the roads in the area after heavy rainfall overnight caused severe flooding.

One photo shows a car stuck in the water under the bridge at Birkbeck station as the submerged road shows no way through for pedestrians.

The water stream completely covers Elmers End Road on the road and pavement.

Sam Sperring, who made an attempt at walking to Birkbeck station at around 8am, said this happens "all the time" with heavy rain.

He told the News Shopper: "It happens all the time with heavy rain.

"Two cars were stuck in the water, all traffic diverted going both ways.

"No way to get under the bridge on foot unless you had knee high wellies.

"Fire dept were there but guess it takes them a while to pump.

"I had to do a 15 minute walk to cross the railway at Avenue road and get to the rail station at Birkbeck - instead of the three second walk that it would be under the bridge it would take when dry."

The Met Office warned that flooding and disruption was likely after it issued a yellow weather warning for rain over Wednesday night and into the early hours of Thursday.

There is no more rain forecast for Bromley today - with sunny spells set to shine throughout the afternoon following a cloudy morning.
