Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip (right) meets the Government Logistics Department’s staff representatives to understand their matters of concern.

Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip today visited the Government Logistics Department to learn about colleagues’ work and matters of concern.

Mr Nip said that the 2021 Policy Address proposed to enhance the effectiveness of governance, and the civil service as the Government’s backbone plays a vital role in implementing “one country, two systems”.

He encouraged staff to spare no efforts in supporting bureaus and departments, always bearing in mind to strive for excellence in service delivery.

They should be innovative, be adept at policy making as well as execution, work with a strong sense of responsibility, and make good use of innovation and technology to meet the opportunities and challenges in the new era, he added.

At the Storage & Distribution Section’s Unallocated Store, Mr Nip was briefed on the storage and delivery of essential and emergency items including protective gear for bureaus and departments.

In addition, Land Transport Division staff showed him electric vehicles in the government fleet. He noted that the department would give priority to environmentally friendly vehicles in procurement, helping reduce pollutant emissions and enhance energy efficiency.

Touring the Printing Unit and the Finishing Unit, Mr Nip also gained an understanding of colleagues’ daily work including deploying printing and binding techniques to produce a variety of publications according to departments’ needs.
