Kota Kinabalu: A foreigner was jailed 20 years on two counts of committing sexual physical harassment against two siblings.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Selamat Asing who changed his plea and admitted to the two charges against him.

On the first count, Selamat was jailed 10 years for committing the offence by touching and inserting his finger into the seven-year-old girl’s private part in a house at a village in Sipitang between April and August, 2020.
On the second count, he was jailed 10 years for committing the same offence against a five-year-old girl at the same place and time.
The offence under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and liable to whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered Selamat to serve the jail sentence consecutively from the date of his arrest on Aug 19, 2020.

During mitigation, Selamat who was not represented, asked for leniency and begged for no whipping to be imposed saying that he was 53 years old.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on Selamat on the grounds that the seriousness of the offence.
