Geneva Wright, a nurse at Advocate Condell Medical Center, was arrested at her home Tuesday, October 5, 2021 after an investigation that began March 2, 2021 when the Libertyville Police Department was notified by Advocate Condell Medical Center representatives of an incident regarding the medical care of a patient provided by the nurse. The patient had recently passed away while he was admitted at Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Details of the allegations against the nurse were not released. However, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said, “Even though the nurse’s criminal conduct did not cause the patient’s death, her actions violated the sacred trust that all of us place in our health care providers: ‘to, first, do not harm.’ Ms Wright appears to have inserted her own agenda into the solemn end-of-life decision-making process that confronts so may families. Our office will be advocating for new laws that strengthen protections for vulnerable patients in this type of situation.”

Libertyville Police Department detectives investigated the incident in conjunction with the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, and in cooperation with Advocate Condell Medical Center. The facts of the case were presented to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, and on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, a warrant was issued for the arrest of the nurse, identified as Geneva Wright, age 32, of Grayslake. She was charged with two counts of Reckless Conduct for endangering the safety of the patient.

Wright’s bond was set at $20,000, and she posted the required $2,000 (10%). She was released from custody with a pending court date Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 8:45 a.m. at the Lake County Courthouse.

The case is believed to be an isolated incident, according to the Libertyville Police Department.
