This Brady Street Coffee Shop Is Closing

Brewed Cafe has been a staple on Brady for 12 years.

Small, independently owned businesses continue to struggle, whether it’s on account of staffing issues, dwindling sales or a combination thereof. A case in point is Brewed Cafe (1208 E. Brady St.). The little storefront coffee shop is calling it quits after 14 years. It will close on Sunday, Oct. 3.

“We are very sad and didn’t want for this to happen but it is for the best. We are going to miss everyone and have loved being the little coffee shop on Brady Street all these years,” owner Sheila Pufahl-Bettin said by email.

Our biggest subscription sale of the year is happening this week only!

Because of limited staff, Pufahl-Bettin says they’re offering only caffeinated drinks (their roaster is Milwaukee’s Anodyne), baked goods and bagels – not the all-day breakfast, sandwich and salad menu for which they were known.

The space has a fairly long history as a cafe. Back in the 1990s – which seems like a million years ago – it was called Brewed Awakenings, a business at one time run by Matt McClutchy, who has since opened Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co.

Hours: Mon-Fri 6:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sat-Sun 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
