Enri Canaj documents Afghan Refugees in Tirana

A story on The New York Times sees Enri Canaj documenting recently-arrived refugees in Albania, a country that has agreed to receive 4,000 people fleeing Afghanistan. Canaj photographed hundreds of people being housed in holiday resorts on the northeastern coast of Albania, which is also his country of birth. Read the story here.

Photographers’ 9/11 coverage in The Financial Times and The New Yorker, and on NPR and Buzzfeed

This month, Magnum photographers’ work appeared across magazines reflecting on the 20 year anniversary of the attack on the Twin Towers. In Buzzfeed, a piece interviewed photographers about their experiences capturing the scene of the events, speaking to Alex Webb and Susan Meiselas. Read it here. Gilles Peress’ images of 9/11 were featured in The New Yorker alongside an interview with the photographer. He describes the event as an example of a moment when we “encounter historical systems that are beyond our comprehension or knowledge, that we have a problem placing in a continuum of our experience of history so far.” Read it here.

Steve McCurry’s Afghanistan photos on Insider and The Guardian

A feature on Insider spoke to Steve McCurry about his four decades of work in Afghanistan, as well as his hopes for the country after the recent resurgence of the Taliban. Read it here. In The Guardian, the photographer’s ‘Afghan Girl’ image is placed alongside an image of a present-day Afghan girl, by Alessio Mamo. FKA Twigs, Tyler Mitchell and Carl Gerges curate Magnum images for Farfetch

Farfetch recently invited pop musician FKA Twigs, photographer Tyler Mitchell, and musician and architect Carl Gerges to curate the images from Magnum’s archive that represented timeless style for them. These images appear as part of outdoor exhibitions in London, New York and Dubai, as well as a video campaign. Read more about the project on Creative Review here and It’s Nice That here.

Rafal Milach’s publication on Hyperallergic

Josef Koudelka donates work to Czech state

2,000 photographs by Josef Koudelka have been donated to Czech state institutions including the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, it was announced this week. The collection encompasses work from the 1968 Soviet invasion, as well as his influential series Gypsies. Listen to a feature on the story on Czech public radio here.
