Police and firefighter/paramedics from Beecher responded about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021 to a report of a church fire at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1407 West Church Road in Beecher, Illinois.
A MABAS Division 27 Box Alarm #4002 was activated at 2:00 p.m.
Firefighters, paramedics and command officers from Cedar Lake, Crete, Manteno, Matteson, Momence, Monee, Park Forest, Sauk Village, South Chicago Heights, Steger, Steger Estates, and University Park were assigned to the scene.
The fire response upgraded to a Second Alarm at 2:05 p.m. and a Third Alarm was activated at 2:21 p.m.
According to St. Paul’s Ev Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights nearby, the Beecher church was founded in 1865. The fire is reported to have begun about 1:00 p.m. and the church has now burnt to the ground. Initially no injuries were reported, and the parsonage (where Rev. Stein and his family lives) was not damaged.
