Lantern displays at LCSD venues set

September 16, 2021

Mid-Autumn lantern decorations will be displayed at Victoria Park, Sha Tin Park and Tin Shui Wai Park from September 17 to 22, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.

A lighting installation The Other Side of the Moon has also been set up at the Cultural Centre Piazza for display until October 3.

A six-metre-high merry-go-round lantern will be displayed at Victoria Park. Other decorations there include lanterns made by primary and secondary students, plus those depicting vibrant flamingos, a happy elephant family, lovely birds and twin rabbits.

The lantern decorations at Sha Tin Park will feature creatures of the underwater world such as clownfish, dolphins, turtles and jellyfish, while Tin Shui Wai Park will be lit up by a five-metre-high phoenix lantern together with displays featuring rabbits, ladybugs, meerkats and robots.

The energy-efficient art installation at the Cultural Centre Piazza comprises six giant inflatable rabbits playing with tablets, for visitors to reflect on the impact of the Internet and contemporary communication between people.

The light-up time of the decorations at the venues will be from 6.30pm to 11pm and extended to midnight on Mid-Autumn day that falls on September 21.

Visitors are required to wear masks, maintain social distance and avoid gathering in groups of more than four people to safeguard public health. To prevent overcrowding on Mid-Autumn day, the public is also advised to schedule their visits for dates other than that day.

Admission to Victoria Park soccer pitches will start at dusk. Crowd control measures will be implemented and admission will be on a first come, first served basis. Visitors should follow on-site instructions.
