Identity Released in Crash that Killed 1, Injured 4 at Higgins Rd and Barrington Rd, Hoffman Estates

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, a 20 year-old Streamwood man, identified as Mark Nissan of Streamwood, died in a crash at the intersection of Higgins Road and Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates early Friday, September 10, 2021. Mark Nissan was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he pronounced dead. Four other crash victims were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.




Hoffman Estates police report that three vehicles were southbound on Barrington Road near Higgins Road when the crash occurred. The crash involved two passenger vehicles and a commercial box truck. Hoffman Estates police did not indicate any details about the crash. The intersection of Barrington Road and Higgins Road is Red Light Enforced, and there may be additional cameras at the intersection that may have captured the crash. There are cameras that capture eastbound Higgins Road, westbound Higgins Road, and southbound Barrington Road.

Information available Friday morning indicated police, firefighters and paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 2:54 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 to a report of a crash with injuries and entrapment at Higgins Road and Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates.




Police were first on the scene and discovered one person unconscious and trapped in a vehicle. Four people were injured in one vehicle, and one person was injured in another vehicle.

Extrication was complete by about 3:07 a.m. One patient was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Five ambulances were dispatched to the scene — three from Hoffman Estates, one from Schaumburg Fire Department, and one from Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.

The Speed Limit on Higgins Road is 50 MPH and the Speed Limit on Barrington Road is 45 MPH.

There was a second crash with entrapment at Higgins Road and Barrington Road with one person injured at 7:48 a.m. Friday morning.
