Firefighters Investigate Problem with Bakery Oven at Mariano’s on Hicks Rd, Palatine

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Palatine responded about 6:35 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 to a report of a flash or “pop” in an oven in the backer with a possible natural gas leak at Mariano’s, 545 North Hicks Road in Palatine.

Firefighters investigated, recognized the problem was isolated to one of the ovens, and secured the scene by shutting off gas to the oven by about 6:45 a.m.

The leak was declared stopped by firefighters by 6:45 a.m. Extra crews left the scene as the scene was immediately secured. There was no active fire or smoke, and by 6:45 a.m. there was no active gas leak. At least one oven will require assessment and possible repair. The grocery store continued with normal business operations, excluding the bakery ovens.
