5 imported COVID-19 cases identified

September 10, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating five additional imported COVID-19 cases involving patients who arrived from Switzerland, Russia and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the centre was notified of two confirmed cases in the UK involving male patients yesterday.

One of them, aged 16, lived at Block 19, Baguio Villa in Pok Fu Lam and had received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in March and April in Hong Kong.

He tested negative in Hong Kong on August 23 and travelled to the UK on August 26 via Cathay Pacific flight CX255. His specimen collected on September 6 in the UK tested positive for COVID-19 and he remains asymptomatic.

The other patient, aged 51, lived at Block 3, Kent Court, 137 Boundary Street in Kowloon. He had received two doses of the BioNTech jab in April and May in Hong Kong.

The man tested negative in Hong Kong on August 30 and travelled to the UK on September 1 via flight CX255. He developed symptoms on September 3 and his specimen collected on the same day in the UK tested positive for the virus.

The centre is following up on these two cases with the UK health authority and epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

The buildings where the patients stayed in Hong Kong during the incubation period were included in a compulsory testing notice.

People linked to Valiant Park in Mid-Levels, Block 6 of Peak One in Tai Wai, 74 Tai Tei Tong on Lantau Island and Amber Garden in Happy Valley are reminded to undergo testing tomorrow in accordance with the compulsory testing notice.

In view of a preliminary positive case with the L452R mutant strain detected today involving a patient who arrived from overseas and had lived in Hong Kong within the past 21 days, two specified premises the patient had visited are covered in the latest compulsory testing notice.

Three other premises are also included in the notice due to three non-locally confirmed cases involving patients who had lived in Hong Kong.

Two schools are subject to compulsory testing after reporting outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection or influenza-like illness.

The Government will set up mobile specimen collection stations in Tsz Wan Shan, Mid-Levels and Tai Wai to provide free testing services.

A total of 61 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, all of which are imported.
