President Joe Biden’s three nominations to California’s federal trial courts on Wednesday were among a batch of announcements celebrated as a major diversification move, but some court watchers say more are urgently needed to ease caseloads of the still-short-staffed bench.

“There are real consequences to not having a real full-time federal judiciary in California, which we haven’t had in four, five years,” Jeremy Rosen, a partner at Horvitz & Levy, said. “You would think that they would be acting a little faster to fix the problem now.”
