The current methods of delivering education to children will continue until the Health Ministry issues a clearance for schools to reopen and parents are reminded to fill in the vacuum, says Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Premila Kumar.

Until then, she said parents need to provide for their children at home and fill in the vacuum as the country battles COVID-19 and faced unprecedented times.

She said the government acted swiftly and adopted methods within its capacity, while ensuring the safety of our citizens, and in particular our students, remained a priority.

“The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts strategized and successfully rolled out optional modes of education delivery,” she said.

“The ministry has and will continue to invest further in digital technology for the delivery of education, which has challenged us in all aspects.”

She said in the current financial year, the Fiji Government had significantly invested $2.7 million to support all Year 13 and university students with data bundles and the ministry was also investing $200,000 towards E-Learning initiatives in secondary schools.
