A dining event to look forward to this fall

You’ve heard of Downtown Dining Week. Now get a load of South Side Dining Week, which is coming to Milwaukee Oct. 23-30. The new event highlights 20-some dining and drinking establishments in neighborhoods from Walker’s Point to Silver City, Cesar Chavez to Jackson Park.

Participating restaurants include MobCraft Beer, Screaming Tuna, Tacos Los Gemelos, Vientiane Noodle Shop, Casa de Alberto and the vendors at Zócalo Food Park: Anytime Arepas, Ruby’s Bagels, Dairyland, Foxfire, Mazorca Tacos, Modern Maki and Scratch Ice Cream.

The week will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 23 with a live band brunch at Zócalo Food Park (636 S. Sixth St.) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Restaurants will continue to be added to the roster until Oct. 1, and a final list of restaurants and menus will be posted closer to the start of the event.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
