10 Things to Do in Milwaukee This Weekend: September 3-5

From music and art to exercise and–of course–beer, there is something for everyone in Milwaukee this weekend.

1. Summerfest Opening Weekend

THURSDAY-SATURDAY | 200 N. HARBOR DR.

With Luke Bryan, Chance the Rapper and Twenty One Pilots taking over the American Family Insurance Amphitheater this weekend, Summerfest is definitely a “can’t miss” event. With this weekend being the first Summerfest celebration since 2019, it is safe to say that there will be lots of music, beer and good food.

2. First Fridays Presents Rebecca Royce, Harpist

FRIDAY 5-6 P.M. | 1209 N. BROADWAY

Enjoy works by Handel, Bach, Spohr and Hindemith performed by harpist Rebecca Royce. The free concert will take place at Grace Lutheran Church.

3. Backyard Birding Blitz

SATURDAY 7:45-10:45 A.M. | VIRTUAL

Celebrate nature, birds and the community by attending birding event presented by the Urban Ecology Center. This virtual event allows people from every corner of the country to participate. It is beginner friendly and encourages people to notice the beauty of nature in their own backyards and local parks.

4. Sports Card Show

SATURDAY 9 A.M.-3 P.M. |8853 S. HOWELL, OAK CREEK

Swing by the Salvation Army Community Center in Oak Creek this Saturday to buy, sell and trade both vintage and modern sports cards and memorabilia. Over 60 dealers and 100 tables will be at the free event.

5. Beer Tasting Train on the East Troy Railroad

SATURDAY 5:30-8:00 P.M. | 200 CHURCH ST., EAST TROY

All aboard, beer lovers. During this two-and-a-half-hour train ride, passengers will enjoy five different beers, hors d’oeuvres with every round and an educational presentation about history of the beer being served. Advanced reservations are required, tickets cost $68 and the train ride starts and finishes at East Troy Depot.

6. 10th Annual Third Ward Art Festival

SATURDAY-SUNDAY | 345 N. BROADWAY

Over 200 artists will showcase their work throughout the Historic Third Ward’s streets at this free art showcase. Attendees will be able to interact with artists and see work in a variety of mediums: ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media, paintings, drawings, photography, printmaking, wood and furniture.

7. Yoga on the Terrace

SUNDAY | 2220 N. TERRACE AVE.

Start your Sunday morning with a relaxing yoga routine overlooking Lake Michigan from the lovely Villa Terrace. Tickets cost $10, and the event will be limited to 30 people to accommodate for social distancing.

8. Champagne Art Tour at Saint Kate

SATURDAY AT 4 P.M. | 139 E. KILBOURN AVE.

Enjoy an intimate tour–personally led by Saint Kate Curator, Samantha Timm – of art commissioned by local and international artists at Saint Kate. Tours are limited to 15 guests and advanced reservations are recommended.

9. Wellness in the Park

SATURDAY | 520 E. WELLS ST.

Swing by Cathedral Square Market at 9 a.m. for a relaxing yoga stretch, 10 a.m. for an intense interval workout or 11 a.m. for Pilates workout promoting a mind-body connection. Guests are highly encouraged to bring their own mat, towel, sunglasses, sunscreen and water bottle.
