Souders was an offensive and defensive end for Ohio State’s 1942 national championship game. Souders was inducted into Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
Souders was affectionally dubbed “The Old Man” when he was a 26-year-old senior. Souders spent three seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. Prior to passing away, Souders was the oldest NFL alumnus.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Souders tallied a team-high nine receptions and was voted team MVP for Ohio State in 1946. Souders played for four coaches while at Ohio State: Francis Schmidt, Paul Brown, Carroll Widdoes, and Paul Bixler.
