NEW DELHI: National Conference chairman Farooq Abdullah has regrets over the issue of NC not having participated in
Jammu and
Kashmir panchayat polls.
The National Conference had not participated in the panchayat polls held in September 2018 and also boycotted the Block Development Council (BDC) polls held in 2019 after the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
"I regret that the National Conference did not participate in the Jammu and Kashmir panchayat polls. The party should have done that," he said.
The NC chief also said that soon a government will come into power in Jammu and Kashmir that will make officials "answerable" to people.
At a parliamentary outreach programme, Abdullah demanded panchayat leaders' security and added that they are being targeted by terrorists. "The politicians who are standing with the country are target of the terrorists and it is for the country to protect them," he said.
Abdullah also expressed anguish over government officials of the Jammu and Kashmir administration not "picking up calls. He requested L-G Manoj Sinha to instruct officials to answer phone calls of people.
"India is a diverse nation. A single religion cannot build the nation," the NC chief also said.
