The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) has carried out a preliminary investigation involving a training aircraft that veered off the runway at the Nadi International Airport on Wednesday.

CAAF chief executive officer Theresa Levestam said the aircraft was a Cessna 172 owned by Pacific Flying School and there were no injuries sustained by the trainee pilot.

She said in accordance with CAAF procedures, all incidents were recorded and investigated.

“Preliminary on-site investigation has been conducted,” she said.

“The incident has been categorised as a runway excursion which involved a training aircraft returning to land at Nadi airport.

“CAAF will complete the full investigation and any findings made will be addressed as appropriate.

“The safety of the aviation industry in Fiji is CAAF’s top priority. All incidents are thoroughly investigated and any preventative or corrective actions identified are implemented accordingly.”

Pacific Flying School owner Timothy Joyce confirmed the incident, saying they are co-operating with CAAF in regard to the incident.
