5 imported COVID-19 cases detected

August 23, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection said today it is investigating five additional imported COVID-19 cases involving patients who arrived from Nigeria, Pakistan, Indonesia, Turkey and the US.

In view of a previously confirmed imported case with the L452R mutant strain, the Government issued a compulsory testing notice requiring people who had been to three specified places to undergo additional testing. Those who have completed a COVID-19 vaccination course will not be exempted. In this connection, the Immigration Department’s Foreign Domestic Helpers Section at 3/F, Immigration Tower in Wan Chai will suspend service tomorrow and reopen on August 25.

The latest list of mobile specimen collection stations is also announced.

A total of 44 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days. One is a local case with an unknown infection source, another is import-related and the rest are imported.
