Fijian Paralympic Games reps Iosefo Rakesa and Inosi Malea Bulimairewa are ready to do Fiji proud in the games in Tokyo.
Team Fiji arrived safely in Japan yesterday anticipating a return with at least a medal from the competition.
“We have arrived safely and want to thank everyone back home for your support and prayers,” coach Fred Fatiaki said.
“The reps are looking forward to the games. We came through Hong Kong and will continue to train while in quarantine. We are in high spirits and our first event is on August 30. We will spend another week in the games village before the competition. Our events are from the August 30 and on September 4.
“They both compete on the 30th where Inosi will also finish while Rakesa will compete in the fourth. Inosi is competing in the javelin competition in the F63 class for amputees above the knee. His best is 49 metres and we are not aware of his opponents, but we expect those who are throwing over 40 to 50 metres. Tough competition is there. He is competing against F64 reps who are below knee amputees and he is in the F63 top six in the world.
“As a coach I am confident. Our athletes are ready to go and they are healthy and happy. They can’t wait to start.”
Rakesa, our flagbearer, will compete in the F41 category for short stature reps in javelin and shot put.
