Monday – the day after Greendale’s weekend-long Village Days festival – signs went up outside the future Milk Can Diner on Broad Street.
The new diner has been the talk of the town since last November when Milk Can announced it would be filling the vacant space left behind by Ferch’s Malt Shoppe, a local institution that had closed one month prior. The new burger and custard shop was slated to open in April, but prior to Monday, little noticeable progress had been made.
Greendale’s Milk Can was the second of two brick and mortar locations that were set to open in 2021. The first opened in April at S73W16770 W. Janesville Rd. in Muskego.
Milk Can Diner manager Ryan Rankin says the team is still really looking forward to opening the Greendale location, but consistent delays with shipping have forced them to keep pushing back the launch.
“We’re really excited, we can’t wait to open it,” Rankin says. “Unfortunately, we just keep hitting these setbacks.”
Despite this, Rankin hopes the Greendale restaurant will be serving burgers yet this year, and the team is looking at a possible opening toward the end of September, but it’s not set in stone.
“We’re still getting push back with shipping,” Rankin says. “It’s still kind of up in the air right now.”
