The husband of ex-cabinet Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa has spoken out saying that he is praying about the controversy surrounding his spouse and would comment when he is ready.

Former Director for Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa made the remark while responding to claims that she had left their marital home after an incident involving their son.

On Saturday, the Fiji Sun had published photos of Mrs Vuniwaqa with pro-indigenous advocate Varinava Tiko.

Mr Tiko is a member of SODELPA and was imprisoned for his alleged involvement in the 2000 coup.

Mr Vuniwaqa said the situation had become murky. After considering the privacy of his children, he has decided to reserve his comment.

“I will have to pray about this and will comment when I’m ready,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.

Mr Vuniwaqa said the incident involving their son was resolved as a family and that was not the reason for them leaving.

Mr Vuniwaqa was a major of the Republic of Fiji Military Forcesc (RFMF). He later joined the Department of Immigration as a director from 2009 to 2019.

Family friend Geeta Reddy told the Fiji Sun that she had been receiving emails from Mr Vuniwaqa seeking answers regarding what had happened.

Mrs Vuniwaqa still did not respond to a follow up email that was sent to her yesterday.
