60pc Sabahans can be fully vaccinated by Sept 21
Kota Kinabalu: Some 60 per cent of Sabahans can be fully vaccinated by Sept 21 with the State Health Department’s (JKNS) projected capacity to administer 60,000 doses a day, said Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).“As of Aug 4, 967,555 first doses and 415,638 second doses have been administered, totalling 1,383,193 doses. “JKNS has the capacity to administer up to 60,000 doses a day provided the required supply of vaccines is available and there is no disruption to the delivery schedule to Sabah.

“This means that 60 per cent of Sabahans who need to be inoculated can get both vaccine doses by Sept 21. “Given the rising number of cases and increased sporadic cases, it is important that we increase the provision of vaccines to the people as soon as possible,” he said, Thursday. Sabah’s cases is back to four digits with 1,062 cases recorded on Thursday from 949 on Wednesday, while nine deaths were recorded – four in Kota Kinabalu, two in Sipitang and one each in Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat. No new clusters were recorded. Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 239 cases, followed by Tawau with 137 cases, Tuaran with 114 cases and Penampang with 106 cases. Masidi said close contacts continue to be the largest contributor with 596 cases, equating to 54 per cent of the caseload, while symptomatic cases (sporadic cases) accounted for 24 per cent of the caseload with 251 cases. “Sporadic cases occur the most in urban areas such as Kota Kinabalu (83 cases), Tawau (37 cases), Penampang (27 cases), Tuaran (27 cases) and Sandakan (19 cases)

“Given a relatively high percentage of symptomatic screenings (21.8 per cent), those experiencing flu and cough symptoms are urged to undergo a swab test immediately to determine health status. “This can prevent transmission to other individuals should one be found positive,” he said. He added that the daily caseload is also contributed by 123 cases from existing clusters and 65 cases from targeted screenings in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) localities. Of the 1,062 caseload, eight cases involve babies less than a year old, 59 involve one to five-year-olds, 194 involve six to 17-year-old’s, 727 involve 18 to 59-year-old’s whereas 74 cases involve those above 60 years old. The caseload also comprises 925 Malaysians and 137 non-Malaysians, 1,043 local cases and 19 imported cases while 526 are unvaccinated and 73 have completed both doses. Masidi added that 91.68 per cent of the caseload are in category one (268 cases) and category two (602 cases), which are asymptomatic to mild cases that do not require hospital treatment.

Some 622 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 4,460 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals and low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC). Masidi said 122 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 54 needing ventilator support. Meanwhile, three localities will be placed under EMCO starting Aug 7 to 20, namely Veetar Palm Factor quarters in Tongod as well as Kg Baru Pasir Putih and Kg Wallace Bay Pulau Sebatik in Tawau. EMCOs in four localities will be lifted on Aug 6, namely Kg Lumatai Ulu in Beaufort, Kg Gumandang in Kudat and two Tuaran localities (Kg Pukak in Mukim Tengah and Gayang Ria People’s Housing Project in Mukim Berungis). On Sabah’s National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, under phase two, 34,916 individuals have received their first dose, bringing the tally to 931,249 while 9,086 have received their second dose, bringing the tally to 366,056.
