11 Things to Do in Milwaukee This Weekend: Aug. 13-15

It’s the last weekend to go to the Wisconsin State Fair and more exciting events this weekend in Milwaukee.

1. Wisconsin State Fair 

ALL WEEKEND | WISCONSIN STATE FAIR PARK

The fair is back, but it won’t be here for much longer. It runs through Aug. 15, providing the Milwaukee community new delicious yet wild foods, fair favorites like crème puffs and funnel cakes, classic amusement rides and games and endless things to see. Head down to the fairgrounds to try some of this year’s Sporkie finalists like the Glazy Boy, take a ride on the Ferris wheel or take advantage of some prime shopping opportunities.  

2. Bronzeville Week 

ALL WEEKEND | BRONZEVILLE DISTRICT l Bronzeville District 

This Sunday marks the end of the 10th anniversary of Bronzeville Week in the historic Bronzeville District. The celebrations include both virtual and in-person events to discuss and celebrate the African American experience in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville and the deep roots of art, history and culture that grew there. There will be music, art, food, Black-owned business spotlights and endless opportunities to learn more about this notable Milwaukee neighborhood. 

3. Greendale Village Days 

ALL WEEKEND | DOWNTOWN GREENDALE

Small town living, big time fun. The Greendale Lions Club are hosting a rotating list of live bands, beer and food tents as well as amusement rides and games all in the heart of Greendale. This is a family-friendly event and a great opportunity to get outside, support local businesses and get involved in a close-knit community this weekend.

4. Morning Glory Art Fair 

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY l FISERV FORUM PLAZA

Morning Glory is a nationally recognized show that presents a variety of fine art including ceramics, jewelry, painting, photography, sculpture, wood and much more. This year, over 135 talented artists from around the country will be coming to the Milwaukee Area; that is more artists than the fair has seen in its 46-year history.  

5. DAS Fest 

ALL WEEKEND l WALWORTH COUNTY FAIR GROUNDS

DAS Fest is a one-weekend festival that centers around German-American history. It is centrally located in Elkhorn to bring Milwaukee, Madison and Chicago communities together. Enjoy a free festival full of polka, live music, brats and brews. In addition, there will be dachshund races. Sign up your doxie and don’t miss out on this family-friendly fest.  

6. Brewery Running Series 

SATURDAY l THIRD SPACE BREWING

For fans of running and ice-cold beer, here is an event for you. The Brewery Running Series is a 5k run where all courses start and end at local breweries. However, you don’t have to be an athlete to register. They welcome all runners, joggers and spectators who are interested in seeing the beautiful Milwaukee streetscape and enjoying good beer from local breweries. Besides being active and having fun, a portion of the proceeds go back to local nonprofits, so get involved! 

7. Beer Mile 

SATURDAY l RUGBY FIELD ON LINCOLN MEMORIAL DRIVE

On a related note, the Milwaukee Running Group-OMG is hosting the official 7th annual Beer Mile and Picnic. The featured activity will be the solo and relay team Beer Mile competitions starting around 5 p.m.  Participants will run four laps on a 400-meter track and drink one 12oz beer per lap. It is a picnic type event with a number of activities for both adults and children alike. OMG will be providing the beer and picnic amenities, but feel free to bring your own beer and snacks as well.  

8. Vennture Brew Co. Celebration 

SATURDAY l 5519 W. NORTH AVE. 

Vennture Brew Company is celebrating its third anniversary with an all-day bash. To celebrate there will be three new beers released at noon, live music, and food arriving around 1 pm. The three new beers are The Night Crew, Bruv, Bruv, Bruv and Nice Hat. The Night Crew is an imperial stout aged in J. Henry Bourbon Barrels. Bruv, Bruv, Bruv is a double Berliner made with mango, pineapple and peach. And, wrapping it up is Nice Hat, a double NEIPA made with Strata, Citra and El Dorado hops. 

9. Waukesha Bluesfest 

ALL WEEKEND l NAGA-WAUKEE PARK

All this bad weather been giving you a case of the blues? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.  Celebrating its 14th year, the Waukesha Bluesfest celebrates American music from gospel to rock and roll to blues and soul. There will be live performances, food from local vendors and the festival’s art gallery. The event presents a diverse lineup of musical styles to keep the classic music lover tapping their foot all weekend long.  

10. Circulate Creative Entrepreneur Market 

SATURDAY l ALICE’S GARDEN

Now is the time to support local entrepreneurs. The Circulate Market is a fun shopping alternative to the regular buying and selling experience. It brings local entrepreneurs and artists together to sell their food, crafts and other unique goods in a way that allows shoppers fair access to fresh, local goods and services.  

11. Whirlyball 

SATURDAY l BROOKFIELD SQUARE

Dust off your bowling shoes because National Bowling Day is this Saturday. However, you won’t need them. To celebrate, Whirlyball is giving free bowling shoe rentals to anyone who books a bowling lane. But there’s more, play a game of whirlyball or laser tag and enjoy some of their American fare, affordable foods. It’s a great place to spend time with friends and family and spend your National Bowling Day the right way.
