Severe Thunderstorm Watch 403 issued Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 8:20 p.m.

When storms are delayed the outcome is sometimes associated with lack of intensity and diminishing storms. Storms have already diminished ahead of a cold front that has also weakened in southwest Wisconsin. A line of storms passing to the south of Arlington Heights moved east did not develop northward into Arlington Heights, so the big question is whether larger storm cells will develop later tonight. The peak time for storm development is between 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 1:00 a.m. Thursday, but the coverage of storms may be sparse or do we dare say … non-existent. Well for liability sake, some community or communities may experience a passing thunderstorm cell overnight Wednesday to Thursday. Remember that tonight’s forecast included a threat of severe weather for at least the past 24 hours.

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center’s latest Day 1 Convective Outlook dropped the Enhanced Risk category so that all of northern Illinois is in a Slight Risk category. The Tornado Outlook also reduced the probability of tornadoes to a “2% probability of a tornado within 25 miles of a point” in the map zone that includes all of northern Illinois. Severe thunderstorms associated with wind damage, hail and an isolated tornado threat will be possible. according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was activated at 8:20 p.m. and “Watch 430” is in effect until 2:00 a.m. CDT for the following Illinois counties …

BUREAU, COOK, DE KALB
DUPAGE, GRUNDY, KANE
KANKAKEE, KENDALL, LAKE
LA SALLE, LEE, LIVINGSTON
MCHENRY, PUTNAM, WILL

Weather Radar) showed a thin, solid line of storms that barely reached the southern border of northwest Cook County, and extended southwest to an area just north of Peoria at 9:00 p.m. The line dissipated as it approached the eastern border of DuPage County, and was barely a thundershower at 10:20 p.m.
