What We Missed Most About the Wisconsin State Fair

We are so happy the State Fair is back!

THE WISCONSIN STATE FAIR is coming back, baby: Aug.5-15 (wistatefair.com). And while not all of our staff members love eating cream puffs under the hot sun, many more of us are eagerly awaiting the day we can finally return to the fairgrounds. Here’s what we’ve missed the most …

Well into adulthood, I still think it’s the most fun in the world to go down the giant slide at the State Fair each year. It’s tradition! I go with my sister and my mom. Of course, it’s a race to the finish.

What didn’t I miss about the fair? I love touring the livestock barns and talking to the kids who raised the animals. The 4-H building is chock full of wonders, from giant vegetables to mashed potato “sundaes.” But the best part is the people-watching. Grab a beer and enjoy the show!

Whenever I visit, I head straight to the Racing Pigs Arena. Because the only thing cuter than a single piglet is a bunch of piglets speeding toward treats.

Hot crowds in the middle of summer are something I typically try to avoid, but my family likes to go, and the people-watching is phenomenal. So you’ll likely find me on the Ferris wheel overlooking the action and eating something deep-fried on a stick.
