Markie Post, Night Court Actress and Voice of June Darby, has Passed Away

We are sad to report that the always radiant actress Markie Post has passed away. While she worked in TV and film for decades and had a prominent role in Night Court, she holds a special place in the hearts of Transformers fans too. She played June Darby, Jack's intrepid mom, in the Transformers Prime show. She embraced her newfound Transformers fan community and even attended Bot Con. She had been battling cancer for almost four years and died on Saturday, the 7th. Her manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, confirmed her passing to Deadline. She was 70 years old.

We share our deepest condolences to her family.

Aww, man! I don't know how I missed that she played Jack's mom on "Prime." I loved her in "Night Court;" she and John Larroquette were the perfect foils for each other. RIP

This is sad news, I loved her. She was also in a pilot for a reboot of a superhero series called Electra Woman in 2001. Looked like it would have been a fun show too.

Night Court was a hilarious series, and she was definitely part of what made it so. I think they do some of the actors in modern shows a great disservice by rushing through the credits so quickly, and usually shrinking them into the bottom quarter of the screen so they can hawk whatever's on next.

In the opening scene of "The Great Muppet Caper", Fozzie and Kermit touched on it quite well.

Fozzie (talking about the opening credits): "Why do they even show these? Nobody reads them!"
Kermit: "Sure they do - they have families."

But don't worry folks - Markie got to the afterlife just fine.

I'm not going to lie...definitely had a crush on her as a kid seeing her on Night Court. This is definitely sad news. She was great as Jack's Mother on TF:Prime as well.

I know a new Night Court is in the works (with Melissa Rauch supposedly playing the daughter of late Judge Stone)...no word on who the mother was. Also with the series ending ambiguously, as to whether Christine ended up with Harry or Dan (John Larroquete), I'd like to think it was her and Harry. I don't have high hopes for the new series, but it would have been nice to see Post cameo in an episode or two, oh well

Rebooting Night Court? I hope not. The series was lightning in a bottle, and I doubt they could even get close to replicating it's magic today. Especially with the current crop running Hollywood. Every recent remake they've done, they've marred more than they made.
