Celebrating the Hope and Resilience of Black-Owned Businesses

Hopeful. Resilient. After over a year of coming to grips with the ongoing challenges of a global pandemic, there’s one group in particular that describes themselves as such. Black-owned businesses have been among the hardest hit, reporting drops in sales that sometimes reached more than 50%, but they’re powering forward with confidence, creativity and hope.

Last year, we made an ongoing commitment to invest in the Black community and celebrated Black-owned businesses during August with events and resources. This year, we’ll keep the momentum going with new ways to make an impact, including a free, one-day virtual summit, resources and spotlights on several Black-owned businesses. Learn more about this month’s programming, below.

Facebook Elevate #BuyBlack Summit

You’re invited to join Facebook Elevate for the first ever #BuyBlack Summit on Aug. 24, 2021 — a free, one-day virtual conference hosted by standup comedian, actress and podcast host Michelle Buteau. The #BuyBlack Summit, created in partnership with the US Black Chambers Inc., will feature speakers like Shelly Bell of Black Girl Ventures and Arian Simone of Fearless Fund, who will discuss things like learning how to drive sales ahead of the holiday season, how to access capital for your small business, and give you opportunities to connect with Black business owners.

Spotlighting Black-Owned Businesses

About a year ago, several inspiring Black-owned businesses shared stories of how they had resiliently moved their businesses forward in the midst of a global pandemic. A year later, we’re catching up with a few of them to hear what they’ve been up to over the past year, how they’re filled with hope about the next steps on their business journeys and how they’re celebrating Black Business August in 2021.

Stay tuned to Facebook for Business News to hear from Ashley Marie Rouse of Trade Street Jam Co., Isis Asare of Sistah Scifi and Noni Banks of The Diva Movement. Click the button below to join the celebration on social media.
