The Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit deputies and Antioch firefighters and paramedics were dispatched about 3:40 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 to the Fox Lake for a possible drowning. Marine Unit Deputies arrived and the victim, a 43-year-old man of Joliet, had just been pulled from the lake by a passing boater, and transported to the Tradewinds Marine Center, 38788 North Broadway Drive at the north shore of Fox Lake in unincorporated Antioch.

Antioch paramedics treated the victim with CPR and Advanced Life Support and transported the victim to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where he later died.

Preliminary investigation shows the victim, his girlfriend, and her daughters rented a boat from a Chain O’Lakes boat rental company. The group was anchored in the area of Columbia Bay, near the Fox Lake, and the three girls were swimming in the water. One of the girls started having trouble swimming, and the victim jumped into the water to help her. While attempting to help the female distressed swimmer, the male adult victim went under the water and did not resurface. He was located submerged approximately 15 minutes later, and pulled from the water by the passing boater.

No other injuries were reported.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, while it appears this was a tragic accident, Lake County Sheriff’s detectives are currently investigating the drowning.
