Client can’t do UC50 (or PIP2 for that matter) due it triggering off a severe mental health episode. I’ve offered to help. Offered to do it with carer etc. But he just isn’t able to do it at all and I obviously don’t want to make him unwell!

It’s looking like it’s just not going to happen no matter what I offer, I am wondering what is the next best option. I was going to ask UC to make a decision based on the information they already have. They have medical evidence from doctor already apparently.

Anything else worth trying?

Cheers

Is the problem with filling the form in specifically, or engaging with the assessment process more generally? Because the former is an easier problem to solve.

It probably isn’t realistic to persuade DWP to conduct the process on the basis of papers only unless there is very clear evidence that he is LCWRA.

If the problem is just with the UC50, then send it back blank. Or have the carer fill it in and read it out to the claimant to see if he agrees. Or have the claimant set out their difficulties free form and staple that to the UC50. DWP will then proceed to the assessment.

The only wrong option is not to send the form back at all, as then he will get treated as not having LCW regardless.

As ever thanks for the advice Elliot.

I will encourage them to at least send it back or maybe write a statement to avoid UC just treating him as not having LCW
