Masidi: Stop holding any social gatherings
Kota Kinabalu: Community leaders, village chiefs and mukim heads are urged to constantly remind residents in their respective areas to not hold any social gatherings, including funerals. “This is important to prevent Covid-19 infections that have the potential to trigger new clusters,” said Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic), in a statement, Wednesday.

He said those who breach the standard operating procedures (SOPs) by organising social events are subject to legal action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).

Although Sabah saw a dip in the number of positive cases on Wednesday with a total of 949 reported, the State continued to register new clusters, the latest in Kota Belud (Tampasuk Cluster) involving infections in the community believed to have stemmed from a funeral. The index case involved a 32-year-old bank worker who tested positive for Covid-19 on July 26 after showing symptoms of fever, body aches and sore throat. A total of 159 close contacts have since been screened, of which 29 tested positive. Meanwhile, a total of 413 Covid-19 patients in the State were discharged in the past 24 hours, while 994 remain hospitalised, 3,458 are in low-risk quarantine centres, 48 quarantined at temporary detention centres/prisons and eight quarantined at private facilities. A total of 117 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, with 45 requiring ventilator assistance. The overall bed capacity in hospitals, quarantine centres and temporary detention centres is 6,645 units, with 67.72pc usage. The caseload on Wednesday involved 917 locals, five imported infections (one each from Selangor, Sarawak, Pahang and two from Kelantan) and 27 detainees. They comprised 805 Malaysians and 144 non-Malaysians. Out of the 949 new cases, 84 were fully vaccinated, 102 received the first dose, 523 not vaccinated and 240 not qualified for vaccination. Those aged between 18 and 59 recorded the highest with 635 cases, followed by those aged six to 17 years (175 cases), above 60 years (74 cases), one to five years (57 cases) and those below one year (eight cases). Meanwhile, four localities in three districts have been placed under a 14-day Enhanced Movement Control Order effective Aug 6, namely Perumahan Ladang Mostyn and Kg Kasnuri (Kunak), Kg Kuala Mengalong (Sipitang) and Kg Tanjung Aru Lama and Universiti Apartment I (Kota Kinabalu).

Three localities will end their EMCOs as scheduled on Aug 5, namely 1Borneo Condominium (Kota Kinabalu), Taman Merpati and Kg Istimewa Batu Sapi (Sandakan). Meanwhile, for vaccinations under Phase II Dose II, a total of 39,120 injections were administered, bringing the total to 900,391 people, while Dose II Phase II registered 7,720 new injections, bringing the cumulative total to 357,063 people.

A total of 12,182 people registered for vaccination on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total to 1,221,465 people or 44.3 per cent.
