Another New Airline Joins the Fleet at MKE Airport

Milwaukee’s airport just keeps growing.

Another airline is entering what is becoming a crowded Milwaukee air travel market.

Contour Airlines has announced that it will begin nonstop service from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport to Indianapolis International Airport and Pittsburgh International Airport starting on Oct. 12.

Service from Milwaukee to Indianapolis will operate daily, while service to Pittsburgh will be six days per week (no Saturday service).

Tickets are available for purchase with introductory fares starting at $99 each way.

“Indianapolis and Pittsburgh are both strategically important business destinations to the Milwaukee community. As business travel resumes, we know that travelers will appreciate the speed, comfort, and convenience of nonstop service,” Contour Chief Executive Officer Matt Chaifetz said.

Contour will offer service aboard Embraer jets. The airline offers complimentary snacks and beverages, and a free checked bag with Standard and Flexible fares.

“Low fares, a comfortable in-flight experience, and new service to two currently unserved markets, it’s the perfect combination that will make Contour’s new flights wildly successful at MKE,” airport director Brian Dranzik said. “This is simply a fantastic new airline announcement for Milwaukee and gives all of us more reasons to choose our hometown airport.”

Smyrna, Tennessee-based Contour Airlines is the regional airline brand of Corporate Flight Management Inc., which does business as Contour Aviation. Founded in 1982, the carrier serves six states.

Contour is the latest airline to unveil plans to serve Milwaukee air travelers.

Spirit Airlines launched daily nonstop flights to Orlando International Airport, Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport in June. Florida-based Sprit has built its reputation on low fares and customizable travel options.

New York-based JetBlue Airways announced in April that it will start service from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in the second quarter of 2022. The airline will offer nonstop flights to two key markets – Boston Logan International Airport and New York/John F. Kennedy International Airport. Founded in 1999, is the eighth largest airline in North America by passengers carried.

Minneapolis-based Sun Country Airlines plans to begin service from Milwaukee to five destinations starting later this summer. They are Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport; Cancun International Airport in Mexico; McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas; Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida; and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Other airlines already serving Mitchell have expanded service in the market, which remains dominated by Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, which had a market share of about 43% in June. Delta Airlines ranks second at 22.5%
