The Oriental Theatre Is Set to Re-Open

We’re excited to welcome back this beloved Milwaukee theatre after more than a year closed.

Milwaukee Film‘s Oriental Theatre will finally re-open its doors on Aug. 20. To celebrate the reopening, the theatre will be playing CODA, a Sundance Film Festival award winner.

“We’ve been patiently awaiting this day for a long time and cannot wait to once again open our doors for moviegoers to experience the wonder that is the Oriental Theatre,” Jonathan Jackson, CEO of Milwaukee Film, said in a news release.

During the closure, which kicked off in the spring of 2020, the nonprofit worked on restoring the historic movie venue with a multi-million dollar renovation. The updates to the cinema are meant to “transport you back in time to 1920s cinema,” according to the release.

“With our restoration work completed during the pandemic, Milwaukee’s historic architectural icon is ready again to transport our community via movie magic like nowhere else in the country,” Jackson said.

Ticket’s for re-opening night go on sale Thursday, Aug. 12. The Oriental is also scheduled to host several screenings and events for Milwaukee Film’s upcoming Cultures & Communities Festival Sept. 6-12.
