PM Modi thanks medical fraternity, urges them to break vaccine hesitancy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said in tough times the medical fraternity managed things with remarkable fortitude. Interacting with doctors and frontline workers in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, the PM said the Government of India has taken their Covidrelated decisions on the basis of the guidance received from the doctors and scientists.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said in tough times the medical fraternity managed things with remarkable fortitude. Interacting with doctors and frontline workers in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, the PM said the Government of India has taken their Covidrelated decisions on the basis of the guidance received from the doctors and scientists.

“If I explain it in two words, I must say thank you,” the prime minister said and also urged the doctors to work towards the vaccine hesitancy and break myth about it.
Modi highlighted the issue of Vaccine hesitancy specially in the interiors and recalled his own interaction with a group of people in Betul, who were hesitant to take the vaccine.
“There is need to document processes, experienced and best practices,” Modi suggested and recalled the years from 1918 when the planet faced a pandemic. “There was no proper documentation due to which the experiences from those times were lost or forgotten. Now, we need to do proper documentation and record keeping so that our future generations can learn from these experiences,” the prime minister suggested.
The Prime Minister recalled his own experiences from Kutch in the aftermath of the 2001 quake. He asked village schools to share their experiences of the quake - where were students when the quake came, after how much time did help reach, who all came to help, what help was extended, what assistance was lacking. “This was a very useful exercise,” he said.
Saying that the government gave timely food grains to the poor during the Covidpandemic and said that when In 1918 humanity faced a pandemic - people died of hunger too. “This was well documented which is why the Government of India from the very beginning ensured 80 crore people get free food grains and ration,” he added,
Saying that the pandemic will remain a challenge in the times to come as well, Modi suggested, “We have to focus on healthcare and fight them with best possible knowledge of science.”
