Police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 8:53 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 to a report of a crash with injuries at Arlington Heights Road and Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights.

A witness at the scene said that police had been on the look out for a suspected DUI driver in an SUV prior to the crash at Euclid Avenue and Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights. A few 9-1-1 callers had reported a suspect DUI driver.

Police and paramedics on arrival discovered a 3-vehicle rear-end crash in the eastbound lanes of Euclid Avenue just west of Arlington Heights Road. The driver of a dark-colored Jeep SUV crashed into another SUV which then hit another vehicle stopped at the stoplight.

Paramedics assessed at least one crash victim, but while one driver was shaken up, all drivers refused medical transportation by paramedics. The driver of the SUV that was hit by the suspect described being stunned and couldn’t speak when a Good Samaritan from the left turn lane next to the crash scene walked over to help.

Police observed the driver of the Jeep SUV appeared to be impaired and conducted a field sobriety test at the scene. The male driver was handcuffed and transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department headquarters. The driver’s vehicle with front-end damage was transported to a police holding area. The SUV that was hit by the driver of the Jeep was also towed from the scene. The third vehicle was drivable, and the owner left after giving information to police.

The scene was clear by about 9:40 p.m.
