251 cases, four new clusters

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 251 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, with four new clusters.

Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manuk said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 82 new cases, followed by Beaufort (34), Kudat (28), Tongod (19), Tawau (15) and Pitas (11).

Kota Marudu (9), Putatan (8), Sipitang (8), Sandakan (7), Penampang (7), Tuaran (6), Keningau (5), Papar (5), Lahad Datu (2) and Kuala Penyu (2).

“Sabah recorded four new clusters today, one each in Tongod, Tawau, Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan.

“More than half of the new cases today were contributed by the existing clusters and close contacts, with 23 cases in Kota Kinabalu from Kluster Bataras 1Borneo and 22 from targeted screenings,” he said in a statement.

Kluster KKIP Empat Timur, Kota Kinabalu recorded transmission of infection in two sawmills, one in Jalan Tuaran, Telipok and the other in KKIP Industrial Zone.

Index case is a 51-year-old man who was tested positive after a symptomatic screening at the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital on July 6.

A total of 185 samples were taken and 10 of them confirmed positive with Covid-19 while 175 are still waiting for results.

Kluster Grandview in Sandakan also involved Putatan and Penampang. Case index is a 22-year-old worker who was tested positive on June 28 and the case was registered in Putatan.

Further close and social contact screenings found two more positive cases in Sandakan, but registered in Putatan and Penampang.

In Sandakan, 54 samples were screened and 13 of them were positive, while nine are still waiting for result.

Meanwhile, Tongod’s Kluster Balak Penangah involved infection in a timber processing factory. Index case was a 47-year-old driver who was also tested positive with Covid-19 when he was admitted to Keningau Hospital for Malaria.

Kluster Jalan Membalua, Tawau, also a workplace cluster where the index case also infected 12 family members, while contact tracking is still on going.

As of Saturday, Sabah has 4,215 units of bed capacity statewide with 46.05 per cent occupied.
