RIP Peter Zinovieff

US British composer and synth pioneer dies aged 88      27/06/21

Peter Zinovieff  the British composer and synth pioneer has died aged 88. His company EMS (Electronic Music Studios) was one of the first to make synthesizers publicly available, with customers including The Beatles, David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd. He founded EMS in 1969 and subsequently released the hugely influential VCS3, Synthi AKS and the Synthi 100 - the latter of which was used by countless artists and on the British TV show Dr Who.

His Synthi A was used on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, as well as recordings by Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre and more. He was also a composer in his own right, with a collection of compositions from the EMS period, Electronic Calendar: The EMS Tapes issued in 2015 on Space Age recordings.
