Group gatherings exemption revised

June 22, 2021

The Government today gazetted the amendments to relevant regulations on prevention and control of disease to adjust the scope of exempted group gatherings under the vaccine bubble, which will take effect on June 24.

The amendments also provide the legal framework to implement the relevant infection prevention and control measures on cruises when “cruise-to-nowhere” itineraries are resumed.

Announced yesterday, the adjustments to the scope of exempted group gatherings under the Prevention & Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation have been approved by the Executive Council today.

In addition, the Government announced in May that “cruise-to-nowhere” itineraries can resume from the end of July at the earliest when cruise companies strictly comply with a set of health control protocols.

To this end, the Prevention & Control of Disease (Requirements & Directions) (Business & Premises) Regulation was amended to incorporate cruise ships into the list of scheduled premises.

This would allow the Government to impose restrictions and requirements to the operational mode of cruise ships, including the relevant infection control measures.
